Conference match at Cedarbrook Country Club

CONFERENCE MATCH AT CEDARBROOK COUNTRY CLUB

The East Wilkes girls’ golf team took full advantage of hosting a conference match at Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin on Wednesday afternoon and picked up its second conference victory of the fall. The Cardinals bested Ashe County by 17 strokes, 143-160 and retook the lead from the Huskies in the season-long team standings by 13 strokes. East Wilkes had strong performances from Hunter Tharpe and Ava Tharpe as each of them carded a 45, while Sarah Spicer added a 53. Carly Lamm and Kayla Wiles finished the day with a 56 and 57, respectively. For the third straight league match, Sarah Hardin of Ashe County was the individual medalist as she finished with a 41. Wilkes Central, which finished fourth with a 168, was led by a 48 performance from Sammi Jo Walker. Sarah Mizelle shot a 58 and Kailee Shumate finished with a 62. North Wilkes turned in a score of 178 and Laken Harrold paced the Vikings with a 53. Megan Brown carded a 62 while Tatum Foreman finished with a 63. Alleghany, which finished third with a 165, was led by Lauren Carpenter’s 50. All five teams return to the course for another MVAC match on Monday at Oakwoods Country Club. Tee time for the 18-hole match is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday’s Golf Tournament at Cedarbrook CC Note: Top three golfers from each squad comprise the team total.
